Infrared Patching

Overview

Infrared thermal bond bituminous pavement patching is a method of blending new blacktop with infrared heated existing blacktop to create a joint-free integral patch. The equipment is capable of heating the existing blacktop to a depth of approximately two inches without oxidation or burning.

Advantages

Depending on air temperature, the entire process will take from 6 to 15 minutes vs. the old method, involving sawing, excavating, and repaving, which can tan take days.

Preparation & Application

Preparation involves cleaning the lot of all loose debris with a high powered blower and/or motorized wire broom. Where applicable, loose flaky paint is scraped off parking blocks, light poles, curbs etc. To help improve traffic flow on a parking lot, either re-striping or customer approved layouts can be applied. If the customer is not able to produce blueprints or diagrams, the specific layout configuration will be determined. Details that are take into consideration include direction of traffic flow, width of drive lanes, number of stalls in each bay, and location of fire lanes. Also considered in new layouts are ADA requirements, location of deliveries, and garbage-collection.
